Using the behind-the-scenes footage I collected between my sister and I during the filming of the dance cover Butterfly by LOONA, my club TCN rehearsed and performed multiple angles of the choreography to create visuals that were inspired by the original music video of the song. Although a lot of the footage contained the copyrighted song in the background, I had to work around the footage we had of purely dialogue to avoid this. Using the editing techniques I learned in my Intro to Digital Media Skills (CMNS 280), I was able to make ripple and rolling edits to create a montage of the behind-the-scenes process. While we were filming, the leader of the dance gave a small monologue about what the dance meant to her which I decided to place underneath a montage of clips taken while filming to create a more emotional experience for the audience. Within this montage, I added dissolve transitions to simulate the idea of time passing as they filmed each part of the dance and make it seamless like a memory instead of just clips added together in the timeline. I realized that there were some moments which really peaked in audio compared to the rest of the footage; when two of the dance members were doing a handshake or when the person behind the camera said something to close to the camera microphone. To avoid this create an uncomfortable experience for the viewer, I added a vocal enhancer plugin as well as a multi-band compressor, setting the threshold to be at the requirements of -12 for dialogue and -24 for music as stated by the professor. After reading my professor’s notes and feedback for our in-class lab, I changed some of my transitions between clips as just jump-cuts to make it seem less bulky between every clip and become too overwhelming.
