Planning Stage: The Outline

Pre-Release Stage: The Marketing

Along with our podcast creation and advertising social media post, we had to create a teaser social media post and an original graphic logo which would be the face of the podcast. Because I use a lot of bubble soundbites in my editing, I decided to add that along with a podcast microphone. Because I am also a sound design student at DePaul, it is very on-brand for me specifically and reflects who I am. In terms of the teaser post, I edited the original photo I used in the advertisement post of Claire and created a shadow outline of her to tease her appearance. Along with adding the date and time zone it will be released on, I created an anticipating experience for viewers who would be interested in tuning into the podcast.

Podcast Final Project

6/11/26

In my CMNS 280 Class, our final project was to create a 30-minute podcast or two 15-minute podcasts that reflected our personal brand. I decided to go with the 30-minute podcast option, as I knew talking about films and breaking them down in different aspects and perspectives is something I could do for hours. I chose my twin sister as the guest on this podcast episode as she also has a large interest in film as well and I thought it would be insightful to get her perspective from a psychology standpoint. She also is minoring in LGBTQ+ Studies, which made a perfect opportunity to discuss upcoming film releases that I’ve been looking forward to under this theme. To create an listening experience with little background noise as possible, I had us record the podcast on my bed and surrounded us with a lot of blankets and stuffed animals. This essentially eliminated the background hum that I was struggling to get rid of in my previous podcast episode. The advertisement social media post that I created through a Canva template can be seen to the right as the thumbnail and cover image for my podcast, as this would be what I would advertise when the episode was finally released.

For my general outline and rundown of how the podcast will go, I used the guidelines required by my professor. Because I only had one person to interview, instead of having a new interview segment for “Interview Segment 2”, I went deeper into our first conversations. I changed some parts from what I originally had planned as we were recording, as I had a whole area in the second interview segment where I was going to talk and have us react to the trailer of the new movie Obsession. After the first part of our interview, I felt that she already knew a lot about it and already talked about it enough as she brought it up earlier in the episode. I decided to reframe the episode in that aspect to add a trailer soundbite of the film Backrooms, which I had revealed as the highest grossing film in the box office during my movie trivia time segment. In addition to this, while I was editing and cutting it down to be more concise, I lost a lot of time on the end, making it only around 28 minutes. Realizing this, I was contemplating adding a soundbite to close off the episode. The last conversation and question I ask as I close out the episode brings up the new movie Disclosure Day, which is coming out very soon and Claire talks about how she is really excited to see how it portrays the psychology of conspiracy theories. I realized that the audience who have not yet heard of the film would probably want to hear a little more about it, so I decided to add a short trailer clip in between my outro and our closing discussion.

Post-Production Stage: The Editing

I added more soundbites to react to in general as well as music and sound effects based on my feedback and grade on my previous episode, as I didn’t have enough breaks in conversation. In addition, I really focused on editing out a lot of filler words which cluttered the discussion to make the viewer have a more enjoyable experience. I edited the podcast on Protools, a software I am very familiar with and was able to create a seamless listening experience for viewers. I did not realize how long it would take to edit because it is a much longer episode than the previous one I edited, but for the most part I just continued the same process and put a compressor on the track of our dialogue to create consistent level.s
